Waimea Combined Captain Jake Goeddert has achieved an important milestone during the most recent round of the UC Championship competition; the hooker ran out for his 50th UC Championship appearance against Christ’s College on Saturday afternoon.
Waimea Combined Coach Samuel Johnson congratulated the 18-year-old on the achievement, saying Goeddert is an important leader in the side: “When I first took on the coaching role with this team last season, it was clear to me from our first training session that Jake was the right person to lead this side as Captain. Whether it’s his leadership on the field or his respectful manner off the field, he’s an exceptional young man and is mature beyond his 18 years.
“He’s the kind of player any coach dreams of working with as he is always all in - no matter how hard things get – and his team members hold him in the highest regard for it. This is a fantastic achievement for Jake, and one he can be exceptionally proud of,” Johnson said.
Following the match, Waimea Combined acknowledged the milestone when Goeddert was presented with his 50th game cap by Vice-Captain Braydon Harvie.
Goeddert is currently in his third season of the UC Championship, having been in the team since making his debut in 2016 as a year 11 student. During that time, he has missed just one match for the side, and the 2018 season is his first year in the captaincy role.
Waimea Combined will play Lincoln Combined next up, with kick off scheduled for midday, Saturday 7 July, at Lincoln High School.
