Crusaders embrace evolved identity with addition of their Tohu to 2020 playing jersey

The Crusaders will run out in playing jerseys featuring their new Tohu (symbol) this Saturday night in Nelson, when the side kicks off their 25th season of Investec Super Rugby. Thanks to support from Apparel Partner, adidas, the Crusaders jerseys will feature the new logo in the centre of both their home and away strips throughout the 2020 campaign.
The Crusaders completed a brand review at the end of 2019, which saw the club retain their name and evolve their identity with a new logo.
The Tohu is shaped by the natural landscape of the Crusaders region, which stretches from the mountains to the sea. It takes the form of the letter ‘C’ but is expressed in a way that is unique to the club and includes a nod to the Crusaders’ legacy while moving the organisation forward. The Crusaders new logo is brought together through the substance of their colours, mā pango (the colour of infinite potential) and mā whero (the colour of true leadership.)
Crusaders CEO, Colin Mansbridge, said the addition of the Tohu is important for the club’s players, provincial unions, and fans.
“We’re on a journey to bring our evolved brand to life, and there is no better way to do that than through the power of the Crusaders jersey and what it means to our club. It is fitting that the players will wear this jersey for the first time in Nelson during round one of Super Rugby, given the representation of the collective strength of our six provincial unions expressed by this Tohu.
“We’re grateful to adidas for their support in helping us bring our 2020 playing jersey to life,” Mr Mansbridge said.
The timelines around the completion of the brand review and the production of the jerseys for 2020 overlapped, meaning the new Crusaders Tohu could not be added to the 2020 range. However, adidas was supportive in giving the Crusaders the opportunity to embrace their new logo from the start of the 2020 season.

Fans will not miss out on the opportunity to wear the Tohu on their new 2020 Crusaders jerseys either, thanks to Monteith’s Brewing Co. who will be running a promotion across the season to ensure Crusaders supporters also have an opportunity to embrace the new logo.
Crusaders Head Coach Scott Robertson said: “The opportunity for our fans to wear the same jersey as the team is really important to us. Crusaders supporters are on this journey too, and have been right behind us for the past 24 seasons. We’ve really embraced the new logo and we look forward to our fans doing so too.”
