The Stadium Trust are pleased to announce that, in conjunction with Red Bus, there will be free direct bus services to all Super Rugby games at Christchurch’s AMI Stadium this year, starting with the Crusaders v Bulls game this Saturday, 16 March.

The park and ride system proved successful last year with over 14 thousand people utilising the service during the Super Rugby season.

AMI Stadium has capacity for 18,000 for Super Rugby games and 21,000 for an international test match. With limited parking at the venue and higher traffic volumes around game time, catching the bus is often the fastest way to get to the stadium and offers rugby goers the perfect way of avoiding parking issues and congestion near the stadium.

The service was established in 2012 to encourage rugby fans to attend games at the new stadium in Addington, offering Cantabrians a simple and free means of getting to the games.

The Rugby Express park and ride service will run from Northwood Supa Centre, The Hub Hornby, The Palms, Beresford Street (via New Brighton and Eastgate) and Merivale Mall, returning rugby fans back to their base after the game.

Unlike last year where rugby tickets allowed you access onto all other routes, the free service this year will only be available on buses running from the park and ride bases above.

“Catching the Rugby Express to the games is the simplest way for fans to get to the game, they don’t have to worry about parking, they get dropped off right outside the stadium and it’s a good way to soak up some atmosphere before the game” says Red Bus Chief Executive Paul McNoe.

“Last year it was great to see the Red Buses full of red and black supporters, dressed up and in good spirits”
