A Crusader since 2011, Matt Todd took the opportunity to really make his mark with the absence of Richie McCaw during the 2013 campaign. His intelligence on field was highly valued by the team as were his outstanding defensive abilities and skills at the breakdown.
His hard work paid off seeing Todd called up to the All Blacks during 2013. He was unlucky to miss out on the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but after an impressive 2016 Super Rugby campaign earned a recall during that year's Rugby Championship and was named Man of the Match in the final Bledisloe Test. He has continued to stake a claim for an All Blacks loose forward spot in 2017.
Todd has been in the Canterbury ITM Cup team since 2009 and is the most regular recipient of the player of the day award in the team. In 2018 he was awarded the Crusaders Player of the Year.
