Delivered as a joint fan promotion between Moa Brewing Company leading with their brand Southern Alps Ultra, Venture Timaru and Mainland Rail, the Crusaders Supporters Train will provide a unique rail experience for fans heading south, combining rugby, hospitality and South Island pride.
Mainland Rail CEO Paul Jackson, a key driver behind the initiative, says the supporters train reflects a growing opportunity to better connect communities to major events across the South Island using rail and the Mainlander services.
“This is about more than just getting to the game,” says Jackson.
“Rail has an incredible ability to bring people together, and taking Crusaders fans south in the comfort of regional carriages will be a lot of fun. Add a cold Southern Alps Ultra Lager and a Great Southern Pie along the way, and it’s a perfect fit for pre-season rugby.”
Moa Brewing Company Director, Steve Smith, says the partnership aligns strongly with Moa’s focus on fan experience and authenticity.
“One of the key drivers for our partnership with the Crusaders is creating unique and memorable experiences for fans,” says Smith.
“The Supporters Train is exactly that; it’s social, it’s relaxed, and it celebrates great rugby, great beer and great mates.”
Timaru is preparing to roll out the red carpet, with Venture Timaru CEO Nigel Davenport welcoming the influx of travelling supporters to South Canterbury.
“There’s a real buzz building around this match,” says Davenport.
“South Canterbury is incredibly excited to host the Crusaders and the Highlanders, and we can’t wait to welcome fans as they step off the Crusaders Supporters Train and into our region.”
Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge says the initiative is a fitting tribute in the club’s 30th Super Rugby season, blending innovation with tradition.
“I’m a massive fan of rail, and this has a wonderful nod to the past while delivering something fresh for our supporters,” says Mansbridge.
“It’s a brilliant way to celebrate our history and bring fans together for what promises to be a great pre-season occasion.”
