It’s been a bin-credible season with WasteCo by our side

The Crusaders and WasteCo have again joined forces this season in a partnership that goes beyond sport — aiming to create real, lasting impact in the community, particularly for the next generation.

Beyond the stadium lights and LED signage at every Crusaders home game, WasteCo's branding has sparked some unexpected moments.

In a humorous twist, the WasteCo rubbish bin placed in the Crusaders’ dressing room has become something of a cult hero — not just for collecting rubbish, but as a team celebration drum after big wins. A popular LinkedIn post joked that the bin “has worked harder than most this season.”

Another standout initiative has been an educational video created by WasteCo featuring three Crusaders players alongside students from Russley Primary School.

It's designed to teach tamariki how to correctly identify and sort waste to reduce landfill and build better habits for a more sustainable future.

Watch the tamariki learn to sort waste like pros — with a little help from their rugby heroes here.

Luke Brown, Chief Sales Officer at WasteCo, says the project captured the heart of what the partnership stands for.

“We wanted to do something that was fun and engaging but also meaningful. Having the Crusaders players team up with the kids brought great energy to the message, and it’s been brilliant to see the positive response. Education is a key part of our sustainability mission — and what better way to inspire than with rugby heroes and local students.”

Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge says the collaboration has been a perfect cultural match.

“WasteCo brings a real sense of purpose and personality to everything they do. From their support of our team behind the scenes to their leadership on sustainability in the community, they’ve been outstanding. The bin in the changing room is the perfect symbol — useful, tough, and always in the middle of the action!”
