Crusaders Supporting Bayleys to Help Kiwi Kids

The Crusaders are pleased to once again support Bayleys Plate up for a Purpose in 2023, raising money for the Christchurch City Mission Back to School programme.

The programme is a fantastic initiative to help struggling families meet school costs for uniforms, shoes and stationery, and reduce barriers for kids and families to fully particpate in school.

Colin Mansbridge, Crusaders CEO, said it was “an honour to play a part in the amazing work Bayley’s do with the Christchurch City Mission”.

“Going to school and feeling like you belong, like you’re connected with your peers, is such an important part of being a child,” Mansbridge said.

“Here at the Crusaders, we define ourselves by these traits – belonging and connection – so anything we can do to help our partners and our tamariki, we’re commited to doing that.”

Plate up for Purpose had previously been a fundraising gala dinner, but 2023 would be different. More than 25 venues across Christchurch have put a special dish on their menu, contributing a proportion of that sale to the Christchurch City Mission Back to School Programmme. It’s a great way for the entire community to support the cause, while also treating themselves to a night out at a great venue.

Pete Whalan, Principal Licencee at Bayleys Canterbury, said he firmly believes in the importance of education in building the future of our Canterbury community.

“The reality is a school uniform is a huge expense for many families, some high school uniforms can cost as much as $1,000 and primary school uniforms, and sports uniforms are a big cost – especially when a family has two or more children” Whalan said.

Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose has underpinned the Christchurch City Mission’s Back to School Programme since 2019 and is built on fun, food and fundraising.

“Like our partnership with the Crusaders, Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose is another way in which Bayleys Canterbury gives back to the communities that give so generously to us,” Whalan said.
