The facilities our boys will use from 2026 onwards are well and truly taking shape, with internal walls up and painted in the changing sheds. The Te Kaha Project team are installing door frames and other finishing touches as we speak – all this happening on the ground floor of the west stand. That’s the one that backs onto Madras St.
The roof trusses – the huge steel bits that connect each side of the stadium to form the roof – are now being installed. It’s a big milestone for the whole project.
Each truss is made up of three sections supported by a hydraulic frame that shifts down the centre of the field of play south to north as each truss is completed.
Each truss takes a month to install, but we’ll see roof cladding going up on completed trusses as soon as November this year. Roof steelwork will continue into 2025.
Kent Summerfield, Christchurch City Council Project Director, said internal work continued on all four floors of the west stand.
“Elsewhere on site the steelwork installation on the northwest stand is well advanced, and concrete pours to level one have commenced,” said Summerfield.
“With the majority of key works occurring at height, we can be impacted by the weather, particularly the wind. But the team continue to make exceptional progress.”
It really is all coming together and the dream of a central city home is becoming a reality in front of our eyes. Updates like this do wonders to bring it to life, so a huge thanks to Christchurch City Council for providing this to us
The Te Kaha Project remains on budget and on track for an April 2026 opening.
