Dominic Gardiner has committed to the Crusaders through to 2027, shoring up the forwards pack for at least another three seasons.
Crusader #261 debuted in 2022 in a win against Moana Pasifika. After 25 caps in the jersey, he’s been part of two championship-winning teams. He was part of the New Zealand Under 20 side in 2021, and the All Blacks XV in 2022.
Ever-present in the breakdown and handy in open spaces, Gardiner is a versatile player. His relentless work rate in both attack and defence had him earn more and more game time, starting five of 14 games in the 2024 season.
“I continue to live my dream at the Crusaders, so it was a no-brainer to sign on with the club until 2027,” Gardiner said.
“I’m looking forward to getting back around the boys in pre-season and proving ourselves.
“Added motivation of course was also the chance to play at One New Zealand stadium in 2026. Christchurch has been through so much, and it’ll be huge for the community to have it open.”
Gardiner came through the Crusaders Academy and is a great example of the pathways the Crusaders nurture to ensure consistent talent.
Rob Penney, Crusaders Head Coach, said Gardiner was emerging as a leader in the team’s forward pack as he matured.
“Dom is a very important piece of the future at the Crusaders and we’re rapt to secure his commitment,” Penney said.
“He’s a proven performer with plenty of room to grow, which is the exciting bit from the organisation’s perspective.”
