The Crusaders 2024 Heritage jersey is a nod to one of the most treasured and iconic – the ‘98/ ‘99 playing jersey.
We were handed the wooden spoon in the inaugural Super Rugby season in 1996, before undergoing a huge turnaround to finish sixth in 1997. Then in 1998 it clicked. We were crowned champions, and our Super Rugby dynasty began.
The iconic red and black stripe design was worn by Crusaders greats including Andrew Mehrtens, Scott Robertson, Todd Blackadder and Reuben Thorne during the ‘98/‘99 seasons. The Crusaders 2024 Heritage Jersey is a symbol of these icons and those memories.
The jersey has been launched in time for Round 5 versus the Blues at Eden Park – homage to the ‘98 blockbuster final at Eden Park. The Crusaders scored late through James Kerr to defeat the two-time champion Blues 20-13.
