Round Two Team Naming v Chiefs

The Crusaders are set to face the Chiefs in an exciting Super Rugby Pacific round two clash at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton this Friday, February 21st, at 7:05pm.

Captain David Havili will lead the team once again, with support covered right across the field with vice-captains Ethan Blackadder at openside flanker and Will Jordan at fullback.

Levi Aumua will join Havili in the centre, while Kyle Preston gets his first start at halfback while Noah Hotham is recovering from the high ankle sprain he received in last week's match against the Hurricanes.

Taha Kemara will take the number 10 jersey and is looking forward to playing in front of friends and family back home in Hamilton.

"I think I've got about 20 tickets for the game; it's going to be cool to play in front of my family and against a few of my mates – but it's probably not home at the moment. Home is Christchurch right now, " Kemara says.

Sevu Reece and Chay Fihaki complete the backline on the wings.

In the forwards, Cullen Grace starts at blindside.

Tamaiti Williams and Fletcher Newell stand strong in the front row, alongside Ioane Moananu at hooker.

Scott Barrett and Antonio Shalfoon are paired at lock, while Christian Lio-Willie takes the number 8 spot.

Head Coach Rob Penney says it's going to be a good challenge against a combative and physical Chiefs side.

"Going up to their home ground we are excited for the opportunity and it's the best against the best of the country at the moment."

A quick snapshot of the Crusaders/ Chiefs rivalry:

  • A win apiece last year in two close games.
  • The last four games between the two sides were decided by margins of 11 or less.
  • The Crusaders own the overall head-to-head record.
