Since 2022 Aotea Electrical have been at the Crusade With Heart Long Run, and now bring in a team of staff just shy of 50 to run laps during the 12 hour event.
For 2025, Aotea Electrical are taking the charity run for Child Cancer Foundation one step further by going virtual and challenging their nationwide branches to compete against them here in Canterbury, giving people all over the country and world the opportunity to join in too!
Tim Kennedy from Aotea Electrical, hopes this could spur on other nationwide companies to put their names down for the annual event, “everyone can get involved” said Kennedy “create a bit of intercompany rivalry and a bit of a challenge. We all want to be winners, we can create that competition, and it benefits the Child Cancer Foundation”.
“It’s just an amazing team building thing for us,” said Kennedy, “a company like ours, we have a lot of different departments and don’t often get to get together”.
“This is something we’re really passionate about, actually getting out there and doing something physical to benefit other people just makes you feel amazing”.
Aotea support many local charities and organisations and have been part of Crusaders and Canterbury Rugby corporate partnerships for over a decade, “I think it’s massively important to support the local communities and charities,” said Kennedy.
Speaking about the atmosphere in previous years, Kennedy admitted he gets goosebumps when he talks about it, “I couldn’t believe how awesome it was and how it lifted everyone’s spirits. 3000 people there and everyone is on same wavelength, everyone’s happy, everyone’s just wondering round doing what they can to try benefit people who are less fortunate than they are”.
Crusaders General Manager – Commercial, Doug McSweeney said having value aligned partners like Aotea means a great deal to us as a club, “They get on board with any community initiative we do and they challenge us to do more, like the Virtual Challenge which would have never come to fruition without Aotea pushing us to make the event nationwide. They are good people, doing awesome things for the community and we are really proud to have had them as a Crusaders partner for over 12 years”.
