Three weeks until Crusaders touch down in Methven

It’s set to be a big day in Methven on Friday 16 February, when the Crusaders play the Highlanders at Methven Domain in their only on-shore pre-season game for 2024.

In just three weeks, Methven Rugby Club will host the two Super Rugby teams on their hallowed ground for a classic South Island derby. It’s always a contest when these two face off, especially in the choppy waters of the Super Rugby pre-season.

In the words of Crusaders Head Coach Rob Penney, there’s a “great respect for [the Highlanders] and the regions they represent” and the team was looking forward to “connecting with our people outside of the immediate Christchurch area”.

The boys will have just returned from the Northern Tour the Monday before, and with a glut of All Blacks having stayed home from the trip we can expect some minutes from them versus the Highlanders.

Methven Rugby Club are pulling out all the stops for this one, with GA tickets for $15 and kids under 15 going free. There’ll be food and drink from a range of food trucks, and a licensed bar area.

Gates will open at 3pm, kick off at 4pm.
