A former Waimea College student, Macca Springer was awarded the UC Championship Philip McDonald Memorial Medal for Most Outstanding Player in 2020 and debuted for the Tasman provincial side a year later.

He was selected for the Crusaders U20 side in 2021, then spent the following year in the Crusaders Academy and as a development player. In 2022, Macca played for the NZ U20s side which was undefeated in the Oceania Rugby U20 Championship, securing the teams fifth title since the competition began. 

In 2023, he was selected again for the World Rugby Under 20 Championship, scoring a try in every game Macca scored a try in all eight NZ U20s games he played. In the same year, Macca made his Super Rugby debut for the Crusaders against the Chiefs, going on to being named in the lineup for the majority of the season.
