About

Originally from Gisborne Boys’ High School, Samuel Matenga was selected for the Hurricanes U18s in 2017 before joining the Crusaders Academy in Christchurch.

In 2019, he joined the Tasman Mako provincial side as injury cover, and proved himself to gain selection for the squad in 2020. Samuel has since appeared over 50 times for Tasman, including the 2021 final.

He spent an off season playing 12 games with the Seattle Wolves, before returning to New Zealand in 2022.

As part of the 2025 Wider Training Group, Samuel has already made his Crusaders debut in 2025 in round one.
